Peng Junyang

Principal Tutor

Mr Peng has spent 4 years in NTU/NIE pursuing a degree in education (B.Sc. Honours, Deg. Ed.) and graduated with honours. He is currently pursuing his Masters (Distance Learning) in Teacher Leadership for School Improvement (TLSI) with the University of Florida. He also holds memberships with Singapore Mathematical Society, London Mathematics Society and Association of Mathematics Teacher Education.

Coupled along with strategized methods of his own, he imparts clear and specific formulas to students, sharpening their analytical and evaluation skills. Besides setting high standards of teaching, Mr Peng prioritizes his connection with students. By connecting them on a interpersonal level, he is then able to fully nurture them.

With over 8 years of teaching experience both as an ex-MOE teacher and as a tutor, Mr Peng has taught both locally and abroad, with many of his students securing government scholarships and securing places in prestigious universities. He has a deep knowledge of the subject matter, and has amassed plenty of experience teaching students of different profiles and backgrounds. He firmly believes that his success as a tutor is based on his students’ success in their academic results.

His classes are held in high-tech classrooms, where students are able to fortify their foundation and confidence for math, as they are taught to apply formulas they were previously familiar with, instead of thinking that they are learning something completely “new”. They will be able to critically analyse questions, and utilize the strategies taught by Mr Peng to better score for their papers.

Tutor’s Foreword

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Math Academia. This is a very big step in your journey towards securing those distinctions in Math. I hope the video in this website gives you further insight into our lessons.

“Math is all about practice”. You probably hear this from many tutors and teachers. I cannot disagree more. With the ever changing school syllabus, Math is no longer just all about practice. To excel in Math, you need to have a good mix of practice with understanding.

In the recent years, there have been more real life application questions being set in the O-levels and A-Levels, which require students to apply simple theorems that they have learnt, to solve a real-life problems. These questions are also known as application or “Higher Order Thinking” questions. Such questions will differentiate the best students from the average ones. Routine and procedural questions may help a student pass the examinations, but for you to score and be amongst the best, it is important that you expose yourself to such application questions in your practice and revision. Unlike the past, practicing without understanding is no longer relevant and it deprives you of any meaningful learning. When learning lacks meaning and relevance, naturally you would lose interest in the subject. That is where the rot sets in and it all starts to go downhill.

Getting an A in your O-levels and A-levels is not an impossible task. The journey to being proficient in Math does not have to be painful, meaningless and boring. I am confident that I am your best partner in education and I look forward to hearing from you.

Your partner in education,

Peng Junyang
